KENYA

Kenya is a country located in East Africa and one of the top world holiday destinations. Divided right in the middle by the equator, it is a one-stop shop for all that a tourist would love to enjoy – be it wildlife, diverse cultures, wonderful beaches, breathtaking scenery, golf and water sports, mountain climbing and hiking. Kenya is also famous for world record athletes.

Destination Kenya boasts of some of the best national parks and game reserves, the most famous of all being the Masai Mara Game Reserve bordering and sharing the same ecosystem with the Serengeti National park in Tanzania. It is between these two parks that the famous world spectacle happens each year – the wildebeest migration.

The Samburu, Shaba and Buffalo springs Game Reserves in the North is home to five species found only north of the equator. These are the Beisa Oryx, Generuk, Somali ostrich, Grevy’s Zebra and the reticulated giraffe. From Amboseli National Park if weather permits one can enjoy a breathtaking view of the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro which is the tallest free-standing Mountain in the world. In fact, most of the best shots of this Mountain have been taken from Amboseli National Park.

The Ol Pejeta Conservancy offers you an opportunity to not only see the ‘Big Five’ of Africa ( lion, leopard, Rhino, Cape Buffalo & the Savannah Elephant) but also Chimpanzees in their sanctuary.

How to Get There

Nairobi is the main travel hub in Kenya with 90% of all safaris starting and ending there. Jomo Kenyatta International Airport which is just outside Nairobi city center is served by a number of major airlines including Emirates, KLM, Kenya Airways, British Airways, Qatar Airways and Ethiopian Airways.

Traveling Around Kenya

The parks are accessed by light aircraft from the domestic Wilson Airport, just 18 km from Jomo Kenyatta, and the schedules are reliable. Road safaris are the most common since the game parks and reserves are not quite far apart with 90% of the Kenya tourist circuit able to be covered on a road safari.

Kenya Beaches

Kenya has some very good beaches among them the Diani beach which according to 2015 Travelers’ Choice Awards, TripAdvisor ranked it the 22nd best beach in the world. Other beaches include North Coast, South Coast, Malindi/Watamu and Lamu.

Best Time to Travel to Kenya

The best time to visit Kenya is during the cooler dry season from June to November. When temperatures are comfortable and the game concentrations are at their highest. Around November the short rains start; although some guests avoid visiting during this time, accommodation rates drop. Therefore there is some excellent value for money available but generally, Kenya is an all year tourist destination.
