Imagine the majestic sight of Khone Phapheng Waterfall as this 6-mile-long waterway pounds and foams with over 390,000 cu ft. of water. Imagine yourself Laos trekking through this beautiful lush countryside.

Luang Prabang, a historical town known for its more than 30 Buddhist temples. In the morning, hundreds of Monks line the roadways collecting alms. Luang Prabang National Museum is one of the best places to see traditional Lao dancing. In fact, three or four times a week,dancers along with live orchestra perform traditional skits.

Weaving village of Ban Xang Khong, this village specializes in silk making, paper making from the bark of trees and also weaving. On your trip to Laos view the villages shops stacked full of local handicrafts and handmade decorations. See weavers at work, weaving fabrics made on traditional looms.

Phonsavanh Morning Market, The morning market is a once in a lifetime experience. Laos is not a country to let anything go to waste. The delicacies for sale in the market may be completely unfamiliar but the selections are endless. It’s something you just have to experience at least once.

Authentic Laotian Cuisine, Lao sausage made from pork seasoned with lemongrass, galangal (local spice), kaffir lime leaves, shallots, cilantro, chilies, garlic, salt and fish sauce. Laos has a strong French influences, you will notice Baguettes in bakeries around town also colorful Baguettes sandwiches loaded with all you can eat. Khao Piak Sén a traditional Laotian soup. A chicken soup of sorts. The broth is slow cooked with galangal, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves and garlic cooked in oil. The rice noodle soup is garnished with shredded chicken, sliced green onions, chopped cilantro, cabbage, fried garlic, fried shallots, lime, fried garlic chili and fish sauce with bean sprouts sprinkled on top. Champassak Temple Complex

Trip to Laos: Champassak is a great alternative to the frenetic pace of Angkor Wat. It’s more on the scale and has the approachability of Sukhotai in Thailand. “Wat Phu s is the reason to go to Champassak. The Mekong River setting is great, and the complex is stunning. ” Most of the ruins date from the fifth and sixth centuries and are not in good repair.

Don Khone

Trip to Laos: Don Khone is a relatively small island next to and connected to the even smaller but better known Don Det, but is more upmarket, quieter and with less of the party crowd found on Don Det. Visit the spectacular Li Phi waterfalls are on the north west corner of the island.

Don Khong

Trip to Laos: Don Khong is the largest island in Si Phan Don (4,000 Islands) in the south of Laos. The islands in Si Phan Don are very flat but there are some modest hills offering views over the local inland archipelago.

Huay Xai

Trip to Laos: Huay Xai lies on the banks of the Mekong river, which forms the border to Thailand. See the sunset over the Mekong river from a riverside restaurant or views from the temple tower at the top of the hill on the main street. Huay Xaiis the most popular entry point to the country from northern Thailand.

Luang Namtha

Trip to Laos: Luang Namtha lies on the banks of the Namtha river. Go on a trek to the Nam Ha Protected Area and the nearby tribes. Choose between options to different villages, waterfalls, jungle, kayaking, biking or a combination of trek-kayak. An excellent base for exploring the many natural wonders. Fantastic trekking.

Muang Sing

Trip to Laos: Muang Sing Town’s landscape is predominantly mountainous with elevation ranging between 540 to 2,094 meters, traditionally dominated by forest and upland swidden farming.

Nong Khiaw

Nong Khiaw is a rustic little town on the bank of the Ou River in Laos. It is squeezed in between some of the most fantastic limestone mountains north of Vang Vieng. Pha Tok Caves set high in a limestone cliff sheltered villagers and Pathet Lao fighters during the Second Indochina war. The caves are accessed via steep concrete steps, and inside a few signs identify points where command posts were stationed.

Oudomxai

Oudomxai is in northwestern Laos that has not yet received many tourists. Although not as colorful as other ethnic groups of Laos, the khamu people are very nice and happy to have foreigners visiting their villages. The local Provincial Tourist Office offers some very nice hiking including night stays in khamu family houses. The town has developed into a major transport and travel centre due to its location.

Pakbeng

Pakbeng is a small village perched high on the banks of the Mekong river. Trek with a sleepover in a hilltribe village and the Mekong Elephant Camp offers elephant treks.

Pakse

Pakse is in Southern Laos, and the 2nd most populous in the country and an ideal base with its relaxing atmosphere on the Mekong and Sedone Rivers, friendly locals, ubiquitous riverside restaurants and bars, and numerous massage clinics.

Phonsavanh

Plain of Jars is where the ancestral Laotians lived and how they were buried. Speculation on what they are but the most likely theory suggest the jars are 2000-year-old funeral urns.

Sam Neua

Sam Neua is a city in Hua Phan Province, Laos. The Hua Phan region, bordering Vietnam, is one of the remotest areas of Laos. The roads leading there are long and windy (but paved) as you ascend into the mountains. It is one of the most ethnically diverse provinces in Laos.

Savannakhet

Savannakhet is in Southern Laos and is located alongside the Mekong River. With an estimated population of 120,000 it is the second largest city of Laos.

Sayaboury

Sayaboury, a northern Laotian town and capital of the eponymous province, remains best known for its main attraction, the Elephant Conservation Center. Here they really care about the elephants and not the tourists.

Vang Vieng

Vang Vieng is a riverside town in Central Laos. The town has been known as a party destination for years, and whilst this still remains more outdoor-oriented activities are now available such as mountain biking, trekking, kayaking, caving, swimming and rock climbing.

Vientiane

The capital of Laos. Compared to the hectic, bustling capitals in other Southeast Asian countries, Vientiane’s relaxing atmosphere makes it feel like the small town it is. Today Vientiane is the largest city in Laos, with an estimated population of 210,000 in the city itself. Vientiane is best viewed as a comfortable transit point for other places in Laos, or as a recuperative stop on the way out.
