Champasak Temple Complex

Champasak is a great alternative to the frenetic pace of Angkor Wat. It’s more on the scale and has the approachability of Sukhotai in Thailand.

“Wat Phu s is the reason to go to Champasak. The Mekong River setting is great, and the complex is stunning. ” Most of the ruins date from the fifth and sixth centuries and are not in good repair.

There are other temple complexes in the area, many dating from the same time as Wat Phu. Wat Phou lies at the foot of the Phou Pasak, 8 km southwest of Champasak and is the most significant Khmer archaeological site in Laos.

Wat Phou temple complex dates back to the 10th-14th centuries and offers magnificent views. The peace and quiet in this ancient temple ruins is fantastic, take plenty of time to visit.
